Ceiling fan 3 speed switch replacement doesn't work when wired the same as old switch whats wrong?
not all 3way switches wires the same,you have to go by the instructions and the diagram on the switch.
D2 is 100% correct: go by the instructions, not by how the old one worked.
Most self-install fans and things include a toll-free phone-number to call with problems. Use it -- I installed a ceiling fan last summer and encountered a similar problem and they were very helpful. (Yes, I felt dumb for having to ask, but I'm not an electrician, so it didn't last long).
